Health and Safety Focus: Autumn 2022

Farming remains one of the most dangerous sectors to work in, with agricultural fatality rates about 20 times higher than the average seen across the whole of UK industry.

Construction, which is another sector where many of our rural clients have an interest, is also high risk.

Managing your health and safety responsibilities can be challenging, especially at those busy times of year when so much else is going on.

But as Gulliver Hedley, our Health & Safety Manager, points out the focus need not be on creating more documents, but on changing behaviours.

Health and safety starts at the top and farmers and other rural business leaders can start to change behaviours by talking through the steps involved in tasks with those doing the work, identifying the areas of risk and then taking the opportunity to address them.

Read the full Health and Safety Focus for ideas on how to address health and safety issues associated with:

  • Working at height
  • Machinery and equipment
  • Falling objects
  • Moving vehicles
