Farmers advised to apply early to flood recovery fund

Farmers in the Yorkshire Dales and Lincolnshire who were affected by this summer’s severe flooding are being advised to make their application to the Farming Recovery Fund at the earliest opportunity.

The devastating flooding this summer left a trail of destruction which is going to take considerable time and money to put right.

The Farming Recovery Fund is a welcome opportunity to access funding to support this essential restoration work.Defra has announced it has made a fund of £2m available, to be shared across farms in Swaledale, Arkengarthdale, Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales, along with flood-affected farms in Wainfleet in Lincolnshire.

Farmers who suffered uninsurable damage to their property can now apply for grants between £500 and £25,000 to cover repair costs for activities such as rebuilding dry stone walls, re-cultivating productive land and replacing damaged field gates and troughs. Farmers should be aware that while Defra is not expecting the fund to be over-subscribed, if it is, all applications will be processed in the order they were received. For this reason, you are advised to submit your application at the earliest opportunity.

Farmers will need to provide comprehensive photographic evidence with any application. Some types of work will require up to three quotes to be provided, but other items will be paid out based on either a reference or standard cost.

The closing date for applications is 31 March, 2020.
